Using Cricut Vinyl Stencil Glass

Learn the easy way to etch glass using vinyl decals you can cut on your cricut and glass etching cream.

Apply your stencil. Use a craft stick or cricut scraper. Before you get started etching you ll need to either create or purchase a vinyl stencil to use on your glass. Peel the transfer tape away from the vinyl at a 45 degree angle.

I used my cricut explore air2 for this project. Carefully adhere the stencil to the glass surface by pressing firmly to smooth over the entire design. For etching the glass you ll want to use vinyl to cut out your stencil. I used my cricut machine to cut out a variety of different vinyl stencils. Smooth out a piece of vinyl big enough for your stencil onto a standardgrip mat. If the vinyl sticks to the transfer tape simply burnish the vinyl onto the surface again.

Remove stencil vinyl. Now you re ready to start etching. Take the weeded design and apply it to the clean glass surface using transfer tape. I get a lot of questions about how to decorate and personalize mugs and glasses and still make them dishwasher and microwave safe.

Permanent vinyl takes 72 hours to cure so you do not run the risk of having an issue getting it off the glass when you are done etching. Then make it on your cricut machine and weed your design by removing the negative spaces of vinyl. Whether you have a cricut or a silhouette machine you can use the cricut stencil vinyl in either machine. One of the best ways to do this is to etch your glass rather than apply vinyl to it as vinyl can come off in the dishwasher and it is most definitely not.
